Product Review

Getting To Know You is the first E-Book from LSW London. It is written by founder and Cognitive Hypnotherapist Lili Sinclair-Williams and takes you on a journey of self-discovery as you get to know yourself better and explore who the true authentic you really is.

Lili Sinclair-Williams says “I want you, the reader, to learn that change doesn’t need to be daunting. With the right guidance it is possible to break the process down into manageable chunks. By truly discovering who we are and what we value we can discover what changes are needed to be the happiest versions of ourselves”.

This book really delves into what it means to be a truly authentic you, it looks at how and why we should get to know ourselves better and what the benefits are. Getting to Know You will help you to dig a little deeper, and enjoy a journey of self discovery

What you can expect

Right from the very start you can expect to feel connected to this book; Lili jumps straight in and shares a very honest and personal account of how the book came about and her background that brought her to wanting to help others. This book is all about looking inside to discover your true authentic self through reflection, gratitude and journal techniques. You can expect to look right back at your childhood experiences and understand how these help to shape who we are today, and what we can then do with that to move forwards with our life.

It is divided in to 6 categories which Lili guides you through: Getting to know you review

These categories are full of exercises, journaling guides and techniques all designed to assist you in your own journey of self-discovery.

You can’t just kick back and relax

If you think this is a book where you can grab a cuppa, sit with your feet up and have a good read while you relax then you’re sadly mistaken, and to be honest, this is where I think a lot of Personal Development books go wrong: They are full of great information and advice, but that’s where it ends. People then expect their life to change having simply read the book. This is where this one is different: Yes you can absolutely grab a cuppa and put your feet up whilst reading it, but you also need to be prepared to do some activities. It is designed to be an interactive book, and the point of this is to start to initiate change and to actually make a difference to your life. You also won’t just be ‘putting this book back on the shelf’ so to speak once you’ve read it, the daily log and journaling prompts are designed to be utilised again and again so this will really be impacting your life on a daily basis.

Prepare to be uplifted

There are so many brilliant ways in which this books just grabs you and makes you feel like you can take on the world:

  • I love the quotes popped in throughout, some of my favourites include:

“Wherever you are, be there totally. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally. If you want to take responsibility for your life, you must choose one of those three options, and you must choose now. Then accept the consequences.” Eckhart Tolle

“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.” Jim Rohn

These really get you thinking don’t they! And I can’t help but feel think Lili chose some of the best and most influential people in Personal Development to share their wisdom.

  • You also can’t help but feel as if she is totally with you on this journey. It is definitely an arms round, let’s go approach, and I love this. When we are feeling like we need to make a change, it definitely benefits us if we feel like we are not on our own.
  • Expect some key phrases to really resonate and hit hard. Some of my favourites included:

“Ultimately, to be authentic is to have healthy non-defensive qualities and show psychological maturity”… Wow powerful or what!

“Children are creative, playful, resourceful. Children have wild imaginations. They can make new worlds with pillows and empty boxes. At what point did we lose that ability to make the most incredible fun out of nothing? Wouldn’t it be great if we could get back to that? Get back to living in the present, without needing to know what is coming next? Completely content sitting with ourselves and a crayon and paper, or an inanimate doll, knowing our likes and dislikes, not embarrassed or ashamed. Just being.” Now there is the ultimate goal right! I read through that and thought “YES… I want all of that!”

It’s an educational kind of journey

I absolutely love that there is so much learning in this book, not only for working through exploring your true self, but also for the future. Lili really takes your hand throughout this and guides you: The journaling section is just brilliant as it is structured enough to give you some direction but allows your own creativity to come in to play so you can journal in a way that works for you. It really is the best of both worlds.

Please Lili, can we have some more?

So there certainly is no denying that the content of this book is designed to really kick start your journey of self-discovery, and the activities in there can be used time and time again, whenever it feels relevant. The only thing I would say is that when I got to the end of the book I sort of felt “What now?”, it is definitely a book that leaves you wanting more. Perhaps this is because it is so engaging that you feel so excited to not only get started but to also make this a way of life and continue it for the foreseeable. But being somebody who likes structure and enjoys guidance I did question what my next steps are after I have been completing the activities for a while…. perhaps another book in the making Lili?

Overall, I would highly recommend picking up your copy of ‘Getting To Know You’, Getting to know you reviewit’s so easily accessible in that you can download it to whatever device you would like to, the beauty of it being an E-Book is that you can have it at your fingertips immediately and it’s price of just £3.95 makes it a must in my eyes.

I hope you enjoyed the review, and if you have any questions or would like to leave your own personal review, please leave a comment below.

I really like the sound of it being an interactive book, and specially the journalling part.

Love some of the quotes and I look forwrad to reading more, Liné

  3. Hello there! This is an amazing review you’ve got here. Getting to know yourself is one necessity that many people fail to understand, knowing yourself for me, I believe it will answer the one big question in everybody’s mind “WHAT WAS I BORN FOR”.

  4. Thank you so much for this ebook. I was just checking out lswmindcards and come across this ebook, and found your review after searching for it. I like the fact that you mentioned we need to implement the strategies and not just sit back and expect our lives to change. I know this for a fact. So many people want a magic pill to change and get better but they’re not willing to put in the work.

    1. Thanks for heading over and checking out the review.

Change definitely comes with hard work, but if we can commit to putting it in then the results can be amazing.

Look out for our LSW mind cards review coming shortly too.

  5. Hey

I have a doubt. I hope you can solve it for me.

Is it better reading e-books or is it better to take a personal development coach?

I know an e-book is cheaper, but I’m not sure whether it has all the info we need.

Thanks for posting such useful information. I too wanted to develop myself and might consider buying this e-book since you recommend it.

    With regards,

    Faiz

    1. Hi Faiz,

You ask such a great question.

I think that really comes down to you as an individual and how you feel you work best and what you get the most from. Some things I would personally encourage you to consider are:

Whenever we try to make a change it involves us stepping outside of our comfort zone, for that we normally we need some support to keep us going. This could come in the way of a personal coach, or perhaps in a friend or family member that you share your goals with.

The key thing about books is that you can’t just expect to read them and for things to change. We I know sounds ludicrous but how many times do we know people, or have we ourselves (We are certainly guilty of it), read a book and thought yup, i’ve got it! But then never actually implemented anything we have learned. We are then left wondering why we are still in the same situation.

This is why I personally love this book, as I mentioned in the review, it isn’t a normal book, it is very interactive with each part having an activity to complete. If you follow this I think you will get a lot from the book.

Be sure to come back and let us know your thoughts once you’ve had a read

  6. I was known for many things but not for reading books. However, with the latest lockdown, I have developed the reading culture and read two self-help books so far!
I have not read an e-book before due to my nature of work as a field person, but time has come for me to get trendy as well! Thank you for sharing a link to this material. Let me utilise it to make self-awareness a constant reality.

    1. Hi, how great that the lockdown has allowed you to get in to something you haven’t previously done, and even better that they are self-help books too. I hope you have enjoyed it and are able to continue with this once life returns back to ‘normal’

I hope you enjoy this e-book as much as I did if you get round to reading it.

  7. Hello there! this is an amazing review you have got here. I have learnt a lot from this Ebook especially the fact that with the right guidance it is possible to break the process of life down in to easy peices which is exactly what I have been doing since I read that book.
I will recommend it for anyone who has not yet understood themselves.

    1. Hi, thank you. I am glad you got as much out of it as I did, it really is a great interactive book isn’t it.

  8. I really love that it’s an actual interactive book that encourages you to be the best version of yourself that you can be. Another thing that I really loved is the journaling part of the book. People don’t understand how therapeutic journaling is and having this tool on the book makes it 100% better. You mentioned that this is an interactive book with several activities for the person to try, what are some of those activities? Looking forwards to hearing back from you.

    1. Hi, the interactive side to this book has to be one of the things I love most about it.

Some examples of the activities include:

Thinking back to a happy childhood memory. This is then used to help you to understand the importance childhood plays and where it all begins.

Activities around becoming more self aware in social situations, to see how you are affected by these and how things affect you.

The book is cleverly designed so that each activity leads nicely on the nice and it evolves so you can grow as you work through them.

I hope if you get to read this book that you enjoy it as much as I do.

  9. Review of the book is so excited that it arose curiosity to the readers to read. Everyone should read the book to find their authentic truths within. I will read it definitely, is this book available on Apple Books. The quotes from book you write is also interesting and give the clues about book.
